Garden Suites in Ancaster
Ancaster is our home base: Perimeter Homes works out of 258 Springbrook Ave. Many Ancaster lots are larger, older or on the escarpment, so whether a garden suite fits often depends on trees, grading and conservation lands as much as on size limits.
The rules, in plain language
What Ancaster allows
Ancaster is part of the City of Hamilton, so Hamilton's detached additional dwelling unit (D-ADU) rules in Zoning By-law 05-200 apply where your lot is zoned under 05-200. Some Ancaster properties are still under the former Ancaster Zoning By-law 87-57, and the city says lots in its ER zone may need a Zoning Compliance Review. For the full Hamilton breakdown, see our Hamilton garden suite guide.

- Combined lot coverage of all buildings on the lot is capped at 45% (By-law 25-033, 2025).
